Chin implants are commonly used to to correct a ‘weak’ chin and improve the balance of your facial structure. A weak chin can make nose seem larger or the neck appear fatty and undefined. Chin implants provide more projection of the chin and allow the surgeon to shape your chin.

Insertion of chin implants is a fairly short procedure taking anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. During the procedure, the surgeon selects the proper size and shape implant to achieve the desired appearance and inserts it into a pocket over the front of the jawbone. The small incision to create the pocket and insert the implant is placed inside the mouth (along the lower lip) or in the skin just under the chin area. For those concerned about an outward scar, the incision inside the mouth offers no visible scaring.

Usually, the chin is taped after surgery to minimize swelling and discomfort. Sutures in the skin will be removed in five to seven days. If an intra-oral incision is used, the sutures will dissolve. There may be some bruising around the chin but will be noticeably better within a couple of days.
