Radiologic Studies in Breast Patients
Routine mammograms should be continued after breast surgery unless the breast have been completely removed. A new baseline mammogram should be obtained about 1 year post op. The mammographer should be notified of the type of surgery performed on the breast in order to allow the techniques to be modified accordingly and minimize the interference of the surgery with detection of a breast problem.
Sutures
Incisions of the face or under higher tension may be closed with sutures that will need to be removed after surgery. However, most of the sutures placed during surgery are absorbable and do not need to be removed post operatively. In rare instances, absorbable sutures will be rejected by the body and present as a pimple or irritation, or even a spot of delayed healing. These sutures may need to be removed in the 1st few weeks to months after surgery.
